Common health concerns

Constipation

A major cause of constipation is insufficient hydration. Drink at least 1.5 litres of water per day, throughout the day. Eat 5 portions of fruit and vegetables, as they contain fibre and water. Regular physical activity also improves the digestion, so be active every day.

If the problem persists, speak to your family doctor.

Heartburn

Heartburn can worsen with age. This phenomenon can be exacerbated by various medicines.

If you suffer from heartburn, stomach cramps or gastritis, avoid fizzy drinks and food that takes a long time to digest, such as fried and very high-fibre foods, for example.

Avoid lying too flat when sleeping; raise the head of your mattress by placing an old blanket, for example, between the bed base and the mattress. If you have any questions, speak to your family doctor.
