Be more active at home

For adults

  • If you are used to working out, there are plenty of online classes you can do at home. These include fitness, dance, yoga and Pilates classes for different levels.
  • Some gyms offer their members access to apps or training plans.
  • If you are not keen on the idea of becoming a member or want to try it out first, some fitness professionals offer free work-out sessions on their YouTube, Instagram or Facebook accounts.

Make sure they are professionals in the field to avoid injury.

  • Do you have any fitness equipment at home ? Now is the time to get it out. This kind of equipment enables you to do exercises suited to your physical fitness. Walk on a treadmill or cycle on an exercise bike at moderate intensity.
  • Have a " dance party " via a video call with your friends.

Now is the time to try different ways of working out and embrace good habits.

For children

  • Do the online courses alongside your children. Let them get stuck in, and miss out any exercises that are too strenuous or complicated for them.
  • Play in the garden.

You can set up time slots with your neighbours for the use of the garden or yard.

  • Learn the dance routines of their favourite performers. You could even make videos to document your progress.
  • Make up games to be more active :
    • fill a bin with soft toys and put another empty one a few metres away. Arrange objects (be careful to use something that does not endanger your children, avoid glass or sharp objects, etc.) with a distance of one metre between the bins. Try and move the soft toys from one bin to the other following the zigzag course.
    • Imitate animals.
    • Arrange a treasure hunt around the house. Hide different objects, such as a spoon, socks etc. and try to find them all.
  • If you have a back yard or patio, mark out games such as hopscotch on the ground using chalk.
  • Play games on your consoles that involve being active.
  • Sing songs, such as "head, shoulders, knees and toes" and dance along.
  • You can find a huge number of songs and dance routines on YouTube.
  • Help out with the spring cleaning.

These are just a few ideas. Lots of groups have been set up on Facebook to share home-based activities for children. Pinterest is another social network full of ideas.
