Milk, yoghurt and cheese

How ?

  • Vary the products: One portion is equivalent to 200 ml of milk or 1 small pot of yoghurt or quark/cream cheese (125g), 1 slice of hard cheese or 1/8 of a Camembert-type cheese or 2 tablespoons of fromage frais.
  • Vary the types of milk, yoghurt and cheese products you eat to make sure you are getting enough calcium.
  • Opt for semi-skimmed milk products - they contain fewer calories and less cholesterol than whole milk products.
  • Creamy yoghurts and cream cheese contain more fat than other milk, yoghurt and cheese products.
  • Make sure you check the Nutri-Score. It will help you make the right choices for a balanced diet.

Why?

Milk, yoghurt and cheese provide protein and are an excellent source of calcium and vitamin D. These are important nutrients for bone health, helping to build harder, stronger bones.

Creamy desserts, such as "puddings", sweetened rice pudding, and chocolate milk are not included in the milk, yoghurt and cheese category of the food pyramid.
